Into the Storm, Antarctica

A nesting snow Petrel taking the Antarctica weather head on, quite literally, while flying to it's nearby nest in the cliffs. This was photographed deep in the Wolthat mountains while on a 54 day unsupported expedition on-assignment for National Geographic Magazine. These beautiful birds fly nearly 200 miles inland to nest on the high cliffs, commuting every few days to the ocean to bring food back for their partner and chicks. They are truly remarkable and resilient animals.
